The Community centre

Gatehouse Community Centre

We’ve frozen our charges for the second year!

Our hire charges are frozen again this year and there’s a 10% discount for children’s parties as well as for any group offering activities free of charge to under 18’s.

See our under our Bookings tab for more information.

This has in part been made possible thanks to Dumfries and Galloway Council, Gatehouse Community Council and Gatehouse Development Initiative who have generously provided funding towards our electricity costs.

The Community Survey

Over the past year we’ve continued to work with our consultants looking at the results of the community survey and appointed architects to prepare outline plans to put your suggestions into practice. If you came along to our Open Day you will have seen these. They’re under our Redevelopment tab on this website and can be seen at Drop in Sessions at the Community Centre on

Saturday 23rd September 10.30 am – 12.30 pm
Tuesday 26th September 2 pm – 4 pm
Thursday 28th September 6 pm – 8 pm
and a public meeting on 7 October at 10 30 am

This is a very important point in the life of the Centre and we want to share the plans as widely as possible so please come along and tell us what you think. There is still a long way to go with this project and we will need your help and support to make it happen but to get this far is a big milestone.

Open Days and Sparkles at the Centre

We hold regular events throughout the year usually featuring a pop up cafe offering lots of home baked treats, fun activities for children, plants and produce from the Horticultural Society and live music. Donations made on the day are passed direct to local organisations. Look out on Facebook for the next one.

Cycling at the Centre

We’re keen supporters of cycling in the town. Annick Laroque of Sustrans I-Bike Communities runs her E bike familiarisation courses from the Centre, details of which are given on our User Groups page.

We are currently installing a covered bike shelter and maintenance station funded by Cycling Scotland for use by local people and visitors alike

Activities at the Centre

The Gatehouse Scottish country dancers, The Under 5’s group, Yoga Group and the Stewartry Flower Club and Table Tennis will all return in September. Our anchor tenants – the Gatehouse Community Church and the Snooker Club – both continue their regular schedule of activities.

There are also regular weekly music sessions run by Galloway Folk for anyone interested in playing or singing along with others or just sitting in and listening and you can order fresh food and groceries from local suppliers via the Glenkens Food Hub which delivers to the Centre every fortnight

There is more information about these groups and activities under the Groups tab.

Always busy at the Centre - so why not join in?

We are always busy keeping the Centre up and running making improvements where we can within our limited funds and responding to feedback from users. Gifts and donations have allowed us to put new, thermal curtains in the hall, we’ve recycled the old curtains to improve the look of the foyer and have put net curtains in the meeting room for extra privacy. In the kitchen we now have a small freezer, an additional microwave and a new water boiler.

Thanks to funding from the GDI we now have a defibrillator installed by the entrance to add to the facilities across the town when a further 3 are installed in the High Street area.

But we’re only a small team. Currently we have just 5 people on the Board supported by some very valued volunteers, so at this exciting and important time for the Centre we would love to hear from you if you’d like to join us.
